Biography

The John Crerar Library, a specialized science and mathematics library, founded in the 1890s by the will of John Crerar was located in Chicago's loop at 86 E. Randolph. It re-located to the Illinois Institute of Technology's State Street campus in 1962 in a building erected to house the Crerar and IIT's Kemper Library. The libraries maintained separate collections. IIT terminated its agreement with Crerar on December 31, 1984, and the Crerar moved to The University of Chicago.

Description of the Collection The papers appear to be those of James J. Brophy in his role as Academic Vice President of Illinois Institute of Technology from Feb. 1967-1975, and of Sidney Guralnick in his role of the university's provost from 1975-1982. This is a drop file-type collection of materials from various sources arranged alphabetically. s with 1970s materials. The names James J. Brophy and Sidney Guralnick appear most often.
