Description of the Collection The collection includes photocopies of "Centennial Preview" articles related to IIT's history, and a pamphlet with highlights of events held for the celebration. "Converging Visions: The Making of a University," a publication outlining the history of IIT. The collection also includes a 1991 Directory of Overseers, a 1990 program for Centennial Convocation and Inauguration, and a flyer for "The IIT 100" model vehicle race. Abstract The IIT Centennial celebration was held from May 1990 - May 1991 with a series of events and activities, and according to the item catalogued here, the establishment of the IIT Archives. The date actually commemorated is the reported date of the "Million Dollar Sermon" which led to the creation of Armour Institute in 1890, and does not, in fact, represent the centennial date of Illinois Institute of Technology as it was formed in 1940 by the merger of Armour Institute and Lewis Institute,...

Materials related to the sculpture Man on a Bench by George Segal, commissioned by Illinois Institute of Technology as part of the Mies van der Rohe Centennial celebration in 1986. Most of the materials in the collection are secondary materials or copies of primary documents found in other collections.

Administrative file on traveling exhibit (poster panels), Mies van der Rohe: Architect as Educator, developed by Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago) in connection with the events hosted to mark the the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Exhibit traveled internationally, ca. 1986 - 1992. A book (exhibit catalogue) of the same title is available, but not included in this collection.

127 boxes of photographs of Illinois Institute of Technology campus, events, and people. Most photos are presumed to be taken by Communication and Marketing Office for various campus publications. Subjects and photographers are sometimes identified. The photos are in various formats: prints, negatives, and contact sheets, and some slides and transparencies. Most images are in black and white and most date from 1980 and before.
