Biography

Myron Goldsmith, 1918 - 1996, was a student of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and a graduate (1939 and 1953) of Illinois Institute of Technology. He also studied with Pier Luigi Nervi. He later taught at IIT's College of Architecture from 1961 - 1996. Goldsmith worked in Mies' office and later at Skidmore Owings & Merrill. He is noted for his designs of bridges, tall buildings, and long-span structures.

Description of the Collection

Two items related to the memorial service held in Crown Hall at Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago) for architect Myron Goldsmith, Oct. 19, 1996: the printed program includes a short biography; a 30-page "in memoriam" type booklet, edited by David C. Sharpe, includes numerous tributes to Goldsmith by friends and colleagues. The booklet also includes the text of obituaries published by various media sources.
