Biographical / Historical

The portraits were probably commissioned by the Stuart family. At some point after the deaths of the Stuart sisters, the portraits were sent to IIT's Stuart School of Business. (The school was founded with money from the estate of Harold L. Stuart, brother of Elizabeth and Harriet who preceded them in death.) Prior to transfer to the IIT Archives, the portraits had hung in the Stuart School location in IIT's Downtown Campus (565 W. Adams St., Chicago).
