The Robert Philip Gordon papers consist of the output of the professional career of architect, urban planner, artist, and Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago) graduate Robert Philip Gordon. Materials include architectural sketches and plans, planning documents for urban and landscape projects, clippings and publications, and an extensive collection of original artwork.
S. R. Crown Hall National Historic Landmark Nomination papers, 2001
The National Historic Landmark nomination was prepared by Eric D. Thompson, Director of Development for the College of Architecture (IIT) in connection with IIT's plan to renovate the building.
School of Architecture photographs, 1941-1943
Black and white photographic negatives with contact sheets showing classroom scenes and social gatherings featuring Illinois Institute of Technology architecture students and faculty, circa 1942. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe can be seen among the students. There are also several shots from the 3300 block of south Federal Street, and one image shows a wall calendar in the background from May 1942. As a note, Mies was awarded a patent on May 19, 1942.
Tutorial Unit collection, 1990
Materials detailing the "Tutorial Unit" as a system for architectural education at Illinois Institute of Technology; proposed in 1990 by Gene R. Summers, Dean of the College of Architecture. Arthur S. Takeuchi, Meton Ramos Gadelha, and Benjamin Erskine Nicholson are identified in connection with units 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Their resumes are included. Also included: "An Open Letter to Dean Summers," being a multi-page letter from student David S. Bombardier commenting on the proposal.
Wiel Arets: Current Work DVD
DVD of a program conducted by Dean Wiel Arets in which he discussed his "Current Work." This program was held on October 3, 2012 in S.R. Crown Hall.
