Biography

Chicago financier Harold Leonard Stuart, president of the brokerage firm Halsey, Stuart & Co., (later Halsey Stuart Bache) was a graduate of Lewis Institute (a predecessor college of IIT). In 1953, he was described by the financial editor of the Chicago Tribune as "probably the Chicagoan most widely known in national financial circles...[and who] had a large part in keeping Chicago one of the world's great financial centers." On his death, Stuart's sisters left his estate for the founding of a business school at IIT. The school was established in 1969 from IIT's business and economoics departments.
