Biographical Note

David Carold Sharpe received his M.S. in Architecture from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1962, having studied under Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Myron Goldsmith. Sharpe received his B.S. in Architecture from Tuskegee Institute and served in the U. S. Air Force before coming to IIT to continue his education where he specialized in high-rise buildings, long-span structures, urban design, and design analysis. He began his professional career in the Office of Mies van der Rohe and worked for Skidmore, Owings and Merrill from 1962-1982. He began teaching (concurrently) at IIT as an adjunct professor in 1962, after which he became full-time Associate Professor and director of the graduate thesis program at the IIT College of Architecture.
