Abstract
A nuclear reactor was built in 1956 by North American Aviation, Inc. for Armour Research Foundation on the campus of Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago. The reactor was located in ARF's Physics & Electrical Engineering Research Building (aka, PER Building). The reactor was the first one built in the United States to be used for non-military industrial research. Armour Research Foundation, a private research laboratory affiliated with Illinois Tech, did contact work for both private and public sector clients.
