Biographical Note
The Pritzker Institute of Biomedical Science and Engineering was founded by IIT in 1981 as the Pritzker Institute of Medical Engineering. A new academic Department of Biomedical Engineering was created in 2002, and the Pritzker Institute's focus was expanded accordingly. An earlier related program had been established by IIT in 1971 as the Pritzker Environmental Studies Center and was associated with the university's Department of Environmental Engineering.
