Armour Institute film, 1936-1989
Black and white film footage of Armour Institute circa 1936-1939. Primarily shows outdoor events, such as sports and games, in connection with the fraternities' annual Circus Day and Junior Week activities. Shows trophy and banners being awarded and defeated team members being "pantsed." The film also includes some interior scenes of labs and science activities. Brief views of staff, such as President Willard Hotchkiss, Dean Henry Heald, and John Schommer, trustees, and others. Exterior shots show campus buildings with neighborhood buildings in the background. The Mecca is visible in one or two scenes; also two African American children. The film ends with a short clip in color, apparently of alumni returning to campus during the 1989 class reunion.

Information that this film was in the archives was given to Melissa Spani in the Alumni Relations Office by Max Ephraim who is a member of the Class of 1939. He identified Fred Jahnke '39 (now deceased) as the person who had shot the footage. Apparently, it was shown at an earlier class reunion (25th or 50th) and then transferred to video by IITV in 1988; a musical accompaniment was added. IITV assigned it Log No. 88-62IV, dated 1/20/1989.
