Property included five buildings and 5.44 acres of land at 440 S. Finley Rd., Lombard, Illinois. Also, photocopy of "Agreement for Acquisition and Plan of Transition" being the legal document from the State of Illinois formalizing the acquisition of Midwest College of Engineering by Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago), June 13, 1986.

Abstract

In 1967 Dr. Alva C. Todd, a graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology, founded the Midwest College of Engineering (MCE) in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. In 1986, the Midwest College of Engineering merged with Illinois Institute of Technology, which led to the formation of IIT's west-suburban Rice Campus in Wheaton, Illinois. The Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Campus of Illinois Institute of Technology in Wheaton opened for classes in 1991.

Biographical Note

Midwest College of Engineering, founded by Dr. Alva C. Todd (d. 1981), opened in 1967 in Lombard, Illinois. Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, it offered graduate and undergraduate degrees. The College merged with IIT on June 3, 1986 in anticipation of the establishment of "IIT WEST" (IIT's presence in the western suburbs) which eventually became the university's Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Campus.

Appraisal

Of secondary importance as the property in question is no longer owned by Illinois Institute of Technology. Nature of materials is significant, however, as evidence of this otherwise little-documented school which no longer exists, but which was the beginning of one of IIT's major physical and academic components today.
