Biographical Note

Allen Porter (b. 1926) is an early graduate of the Institute of Design who met Laszlo Moholy-Nagy before enrolling in the school. Porter grew up n Chicago, attended Bradley Polytechnic Institute (later, Bradley University) before being drafted into the army during World War II. In September 1946, he began attending classes at Institute of Design where he studied under Moholy-Nagy until Moholy's death on Nov. 24, 1946. Porter continued his studies, finishing in 1949. Porter later lived and worked in California where he did commercial graphic design.

Provenance

Materials were sent to IIT Archives by the Mies Society which had received them from Porter.
