Biographical Note
IIT's Pritzker Institute for Medical Engineering was founded at IIT in 1981; endowed by the Pritzker Family and a gift from the Searle Foundation through the Chicago Community Trust. In the 2000s the Institute expanded focus to biomedical sciences. In 2002 these research functions of the Institute were shifted to the new Department of Biomedical Engineering in the College of Engineering; the Pritzker Institute became primarily a supervisory body for the Biophysics Collaborative Access team (BioCAT), the Center for Integrative Neuroscience and Neuroengineering Research (CINNR), the Engineering Center for Diabetes Research and Education (ECDRE), the Medical Imaging Research Center (MIRC), and the Center for Molecular Study of Condensed Soft Matter (uCoSM).
