Mies and Beyond: IIT Alumni Tour
Video titled Mies and Beyond: IIT Alumni Tour featuring highlights of a tour by Illinois Institute of Technology architecture students, alumni, and faculty to Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, and Berlin in 2002. The tour was initiated by Robert Babbin '42 and led by Prof. Dirk Dennison. The group toured each location with particular attention to Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and other modernist architectural sites. Scenes at the reconstructed Barcelona Pavilion (including Georg Kolbe's sculpture Sunrise) and the New National Gallery include comments by Mies biographer Franz Schulze. Some of those included on the film are Prof. Timothy Brown (who advised students on keeping a sketchbook), George Christenson '53, Dean Donna Robertson, Mary Elizabeth Droste Spies, Nicholas Anderson (4th year student), Katja Ackerman (5th year student), and President Lew & Marge Collins. The film is supplemented with thematically appropriate pre-recorded music. Produced by Lost and Found Productions, Copyright 2002. Ca. 40 minutes
