Mies van der Rohe blueprints, 1944-1945
Three sheets of blueprints, ca. 1944-1945, showing floor plans for the (unbuilt) Library and Administration Building on the campus of Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago) by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. 1) Two drawing on the same sheet identified as "Administration" and showing the second floor and first floor with a long narrow central court. Building footprint is shown as 177' x 255'; scale 1" = 20'-0". Drawings show the spaces divided into rooms, hallway, stairs, etc. and identify the various rooms as offices (by function), classrooms, or other use. Drawing is 23.5 x 17". 2) No title on blueprint; apparently a drawing of the first (?) floor (different plan and design than the one noted above--no central courtyard) identifying spaces for various administrative offices, periodicals, and men's and women's bathrooms. Drawing has some hand-written pencil markings on it. Drawing is 48.5 x 36". 3) No title on blueprint; apparently a drawing of the second (?) floor to go with the item above identifying offices for president, vice president and their assistants, reserve book room, individual study spaces, and stacks area. Other areas are unidentified. Drawing is 48.5 x 36".
