Illinois Institute of Technology. Institute of Psychology
Biography
The Institute of Psychology was a college of Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago) from 1996-2013. The first psychology degrees were awarded by Lewis Institute (a predecessor school of IIT) in 1926. After the 1940 merger of Lewis Institute and Armour Institute of Technology which created IIT, psychology courses continued to be taught through the Department of Psychology in the Lewis College of Science and Letters (a previous academic division of IIT). In 1996, psychology was elevated from a departmental level to the college level and given the name Institute of Psychology. In January 2011, The Institute of Psychology changed its name to IIT College of Psychology. M. Ellen Mitchell served as director of the Institute and later as Dean of the College of Psychology.
