"The American Scene" audio tapes, a series of recordings produced by Illinois Institute of Technology to accompany a weekly television program broadcast on WNBC-TV (Chicago). Audio recordings were subsequently re-broadcast as radio programs on WMAQ (Chicago).

Description of the Collection

Monograph titled "LLP: A Personal and Idiosyncratic History of the Humanities at IIT by Henry Knepler"; Chicago, 1988. LLP stands for "Language, Literature and Philosophy," an earlier title of the humanities department at Illinois Institute of Technology, now known as the Lewis Department of Humanities. The account is a personal commentary which recounts and frequently analyses the workings of the department from the mid-1940s to mid-1970s.

Scope and Contents Moderator and Illinois Institute of Technology professor Jules Zanger and guests Richard M. Smith (Director of Educational Services, Illinois Bell Telephone) and George S. Speer (Director, Institute of Psychological Services, Illinois Institue of Technology) discuss the ability of testing to predict success, primarily in an occupational context.
