Description of the Collection

Printed brochure published by Illinois Institute of Technology showing the "Campus Plan" (buildings and grounds design) done by architect Alfred S. Alschuler. The campus development proposal included buildings to be used by IIT and Armour Research Foundation.

Content Description

This collection includes drawings, plans, blueprints, and other materials stored in the East Map Case. These materials are not all from the same source, nor are they a coherent collection by any factor other than that they are all stored together. Description of the Collection

Responses to IIT Request for Qualifications from five firms to provide architectural and engineering services in connection with redevelopment of the campus buildings (formerly IITRI research laboratories) to be used as the Biotech and BioMed Research and Development Complex (later known as University Technology Park). The five bidders were: Cannon Design, CHU2A, Knight/M&W Zander, LCM Architects, and Perkins & Will. The contract was awarded to Cannon Design.

Carr Memorial Chapel of St. Saviour: 1) Flyer with brief information about Carr Chapel; probably issued as a publicity piece shortly after the building was opened in 1952. 2) Article by Margaret M. Grubiak, "Educating the Moral Scientist: The Chapels at I.I.T. and M.I.T.," published in ARRIS: Journal of the Southeast Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians (volume 18, 2007) (entire volume on file; gift of Margaret Grubiak)

Description of the Collection

Presentation-style book apparently prepared and published by the Mies van der Rohe Society of IIT under the title "Robert F. Carr Memorial Chapel of St. Savior, IIT," for presentation to donors supportive of the chapel's restoration. Contains ten pages of color photographs of the chapel's interior a brief history of the chapel. The final page reads "Thank you from the Mies van der Rohe Society and the IIT Community."

Description of the Collection

Three pages of blueprints (27 x 41") for the Navy Building (later, Alumni Memorial Hall) by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Holabird & Root. Drawings are identified as First Floor Framing, drawing S2; 2nd Floor Framing, S3; and Roof Framing Plan, S4. All are dated 5/17/1945 and are identified as revisions of commission number 7774.
