Biographical Note
The National Commission for IIT was formed by the IIT Board of Trustees in 1995 as a self-study group to recommend strategic directions and a resource strategy to take the school into the 21st century as a preeminent technical university. The Commission was composed of people appointed from inside and outside the university who met monthly (ca. Feb. to Nov.) and presented a final proposal to the Trustees in November, 1995. The Commission's recommendations, which were accepted by the Trustees, re-committed Illinois Institute of Technology to its South Side Chicago location at 33rd and State Streets and included bolstering academic programs. David Baker, IIT V.P. for External Affairs, served as executive director of the Commission.
