Frank Doherty collection, 1955
Content Description
Black and white photo, 8" x 10", of three construction workers on the site of the in-progress Crown Hall at the intersection of 34th Street and Dearborn (NE corner). The Keith Elementary School on the SW corner of 34th and Dearborn is in the background. The men stand outside a work shed that has one sign reading "Building Materials by Material Service Corporation" and another reading "Pace Associates." The man wearing a hat is identified as Frank Doherty (the grandfather of the photo donor). A backhoe is seen at the left edge of the photo, with its bucket excavating a trench. The three men stand in the center of the photo, with one of them (not Frank Doherty) with his foot on a long pipe of at least 20' of length (extending beyond the right edge of the photo). Directly behind Doherty stands a pile of other buildings materials under a tarp that blocks their ready identification. The center of the reverse of the print bears the stamp "Edward A. Center, Glenview, Illinois" and the negative number 31845 while the upper right of the reverse has written in blue ink "IIT job, 34th & Dearborn, Aug 1 1955 temp 97 degrees."
