This collection contains administrative files relating to the planning and conducting of events at Illinois Institute of Technology which marked the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Events included lectures, an exhibit (in Crown Hall June 6-July 12, 1986), and accompanying catalogue, Mies van der Rohe: Architect as Educator, edited by Rolf Achilles, Kevin Harrington, and Charlotte Myhrum.

Abstract

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was Director of the Department of Architecture at Armour Institute of Technology and Illinois Institute of Technology, 1938 - 1958. A series of events was hosted at IIT during the centennial year 1986 which marked the 100th anniversary of his birth. These Mies van der Rohe Centennial records represent materials created as part of the campus celebration events.

Arrangement of the Collection

The collection has not been fully processed. The manuscript materials are currently arranged by box number corresponding the boxes in which they were presumably transferred to the IIT Archives in 1991. The audio tapes found with the manuscripts were removed from the boxes for separate storage. Some additional found-in-collection manuscript materials related to this topic have been added to this collection from time to time as they are found.
