Description of the Collection

Presentation-style book apparently prepared and published by the Mies van der Rohe Society of IIT under the title "Robert F. Carr Memorial Chapel of St. Savior, IIT," for presentation to donors supportive of the chapel's restoration. Contains ten pages of color photographs of the chapel's interior a brief history of the chapel. The final page reads "Thank you from the Mies van der Rohe Society and the IIT Community."

Description of the Collection

United States Postal Service stamp depicting S. R. Crown Hall. The item is a stamp cover commemorating first day of issue stamp. Image on stamp on cover is of S. R. Crown Hall in recognition of the Ludwig Mies van der Rohe-designed campus of Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago. Cancellation dated Sept. 30, 1982. Also displayed in window of envelope is a gold-plated reproduction of the stamp.

Description of the Collection

Black and white photographic negatives with contact sheets showing classroom scenes and social gatherings featuring Illinois Institute of Technology architecture students and faculty, circa 1942. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe can be seen among the students. There are also several shots from the 3300 block of south Federal Street, and one image shows a wall calendar in the background from May 1942. As a note, Mies was awarded a patent on May 19, 1942.

Description of the Collection Four photographs taken at the Graham Foundation in Chicago of a meeting of representatives of the four Chicago firms that were hired by the General Services Administration to design and construct the Everett McKinley Dirksen U.S. Courthouse and the Kluczynski Federal Building. These photos were probably taken in or around 1968 as Mies was present that day and died in the summer of 1969. Description of the Collection Two brochures on the buildings designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe at 900-910 N. Lake Shore Dr., Chicago (built 1955). The brochures were designed by Wayne Kosterman with the intention of creating pieces that would appear "the way Mies might have if he were a graphic designer," per Kosterman.
